What is Skype

Skype is a little program for making free calls over the internet to anyone else who also has Skype. It’s free and easy to download and use, and works with most computers. Skype calls have excellent sound quality and are highly secure with end-to-end encryption. You don’t even need to configure your firewall or router or any other networking gear. It just, you know… works, no wander it over 120 million users globally.

What are the advantages of VoIP gateways?

Many people have been told that, in order to have VoIP, they have to throw out their existing telephone switch and replace it with an expensive VoIP PBX. Not only is that not true, it also is a terrible option for most businesses because it creates a situation in which entire company needs to be re-trained just to make a phone call.

One alternative to the "throw out everything" approach is to use VOIP Gateway upgrading the existing PBX , VOIP Gateway is a bridge between the regular PBX and IP data Network. This is definitely better option because it tends to be less disruptive to the business and importantly it is much less the costs.

What is FXS and FXO?

FXS means Foreign Exchange Station which is the interface to station. FXO means Foreign Exchange Office which is the interface to central office. FXS equipment will send dial tone to the connected station. FXO will receive dial tone from central office equipment (for example, switching system, PBX).

The HotKey setting of SK04 

SK04 Desktop Skype-Phone has 6  Skype Hotkeys on the keypad specially designed to match the hotkey function on Skype program for Windows version. By default, the Hotkey function in Skype program is disabled, Please following the user manual to enable and set up the Hotkey function in Skype program so that SK04 can fully functional with Skype. 

The Volume Control on SK04

SK04 has not volume control key on the phone. Go to the Windows Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices->Voice, Make sure Voice Playback, Voice Recording are using "USB Phone".  Sometime, When you plug in SK04 to the PC, Windows will set the highest volume for Sk04 automatically, please check the volume of the Voice Playback, adjust the Wave Volume to the middle of the range.

How to get Music sound from PC sound system and Voice from  SK04

A lot of time When you plug in the USB phone, Windows will set USB phone as default the sound device for Audio playback. To avoid that please Go to the Windows Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices->Audio, Change the default the sound device to your PC sound card, and leave the "USB Phone" for Voice.

How to make call on SK04

If the Skype is inactive, Press red SKYPE key on the SK04 to focus Skype.

Make Skype calls -- Using Up or Down key to select the contact name on Skype contact list and press green "OK" key to dial out.

Make Skype calls by "Speed Dial number" -- Highlight the contact name on Skype contact list, right mouse button click, select "Assign Speed dial", The Speed dial number can be between 1 - 99, and the Speed dial number will be displayed on the contact list. You can dial the “Speed Dial Number” on the keypad on SK04 and press green "OK" to dial out.

Example: James is the name on the Skype contact list, you assign a Speed Dial Number “11” to him. The “11” will display on the contact list, you simply dial “11” on the SK04 keypad to call James.

Make SkypeOut calls -- Just using numeric keypad on SK04 to dial out directly, the dial plan is as follows: 00 + Country Code + Area Code + Phone number.

Example: Make a call to Sydney Australia 96303339, please dial " 0061296303339 then press green "OK". Call to Australian Mobile phone 0411 123456 please dial "0061411123456 then press green "OK".
